Two soldiers killed in truck-pickup collision in Sirajganj

Two army personnel were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and an army pickup on Monday evening in Sirajganj.

The accident took place in the border market area on the west side of Bangabandhu bridge.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangabandhu bridge (west side) police station Mosaddek Hossain confirmed the matter.

He said a freight truck from Dhaka to North Bengal collided with an army patrol pickup in Bangabandhu Bridge at around 7:00pm. The terrible collision left the army pickup twisted and the truck overturned.

The five injured were immediately rushed to Bongamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital where on-duty doctor declared two of them dead, said the OC.

The deceased were identified as Soldier Dipankar, 22, and Corporal Mehedi, 35. 

Seriously injured Sergeant Firoz, 36, has been sent to Dhaka by an army helicopter.

Dr Faisal Ahmed, emergency department doctor of Sirajganj 250-bed Bongamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital said two of the five injured in the accident died before being brought to the hospital.
