United Arab Emirates (UAE) new Ambassador Ali Abdulla Khaseif AlHmoudi on Wednesday assured Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of continued cooperation over development of Bangladesh's infrastructure and seaport as he called on her at her official residence Ganabhaban.

"UAE will continue cooperation in the development of Bangladesh's infrastructure and seaport for mutual benefit," Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

Chattogram port authority officials said a G2G deal has already signed between Bangladesh and UAE on particularly Chattogram port development cooperation.

They said the UAE also want to operate a jetty off the bay terminal and a new mooring container terminal at Chattogram Port.

While briefing newsmen after the meeting, Karim said the UAE envoy also assured that his county will carry forward the friendship of cooperation with Bangladesh.

The UAE ambassador, as well, apprised the prime minister of his meeting with the state minister of civil aviation and tourism regarding the issue of cooperation in the aviation sector.

He said the foundation of the bilateral relation between Bangladesh and the UAE was laid by the Fathers of the two nations Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan through the visit of Bangabandhu in 1974.

Later, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan also visited Dhaka in 1984 and played a very pivotal role in establishing a solid foundation of the bilateral ties between the two brotherly countries, he added.

During the meeting, the prime minister highly appreciated the UAE leadership as they are going to host the COP-28 summit in Dubai in November next.

While talking about Bangladeshi expatriates working in the UAE, Sheikh Hasina put emphasis on learning the Arabic language for those willing to go to the UAE and other Arab Countries for seeking jobs.

Welcoming the new envoy of the UAE in Dhaka, the prime minister assured him of providing all cooperation during his stay in Bangladesh. She also conveyed her best wishes to the UAE leadership through the ambassador.

Prime Minister's Ambassador-at-Large Mohammad Ziauddin and Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah were present.
