A Dhaka court has sent Farzana Zaman Neha to jail after five days of remand in a case filed over her alleged involvement in a University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) student’s rape and murder at Mohammadpur in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder passed the order on Thursday after the investigation officer (IO) of the case produced her before the court after the remand period and prayed to send Neha in jail until completion of the investigation.
Earlier on February 5, a Dhaka court placed Neha on a five-day remand for her alleged involvement in the case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder passed the order on February 5 after the investigation officer sought a seven-day remand for Neha.
Earlier on February 4, accused Neha was arrested as she had remained fugitive since the incident.
Earlier on February 1, a Dhaka court placed three friends of the deceased woman -- Murtoja Raihan, (21); Tafsir, (21); and Nuhat Alam Coco, (22) -- on a five-day remand each.
The victim’s father alleged that his 22-year-old daughter had been taken to a restaurant at Uttara by Murtoja and Arafat on January 28 and she had fallen sick as they had forced her to excessive alcohol consumption.
Later, she was taken to a flat in Mohammadpur where Murtoja Raihan raped the victim. After that, she died while undergoing treatment at a city hospital.
