UN hosts first exhibition on 1971 genocide

A photo exhibition on the 1971 genocide was arranged at the United Nations Headquarters in New York for the first time, under the joint auspices of the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN and Bangladesh Liberation War Museum.

The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Foreign Secretary Ambassador Masud Bin Momen on Wednesday, read a release issued on Thursday.

“It will play a crucial role in the continuous efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in achieving international recognition of the liberation war genocide. It is a historical step taken in remembrance of the martyred souls,” Momen said in his inaugural speech.

He also thanked those concerned about the exhibition, especially the Bangladesh Liberation War Museum for arranging such a significant event, the release added.

Ambassadors, UN and Bangladesh Mission officials, and eminent persons from the Bangladesh community including family members of the freedom fighters and martyrs were present at the event.

Twenty-seven photographs of the Bangladesh genocide along with the backgrounds and historical description, provided by the Liberation War Museum will be kept at the exhibition which will remain open to the public till March 31, 2023.
