Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, who was the chief guest at the 8th ICSB National Award for Corporate Governance Excellence 2020, presented trophies and certificates to the winning companies in 13 categories.

The programme was held at a hotel in the capital on Sunday.

The companies were mainly judged in terms of how well they promoted corporate fairness, transparency, and accountability in the overall management of their teams in 2020, says a press release.

The commerce minister said efficient corporate governance was gaining increasing importance in today’s business world.

“The government is committed to ensuring a culture of good corporate governance among all listed companies in Bangladesh,” he added.

Speaking as the special guest at the event, Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), said corporate governance is a major determinant of stability and development of the capital market.
