A half-day blockade of roads and waterways, called by United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) protesting the killing of its two members was observed in Rangamati on Monday.

The UPDF blamed Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) for the killing in Langadu Upazila of the district on Saturday and demanded the arrest and punishment of the killers, reports UNB.

Long-distance transport movement remained halted on Rangamati-Khagrachhari and Chattogram roads in the morning. However, the traffic within the town remained normal.

Members of the UPDF and associate bodies enforced the blockade by placing logs and setting fire to the roads.

To prevent any untoward incidents, police patrols have been intensified at key points.

On Saturday, a group of seven JSS members allegedly attacked UPDF members engaged in organisational activities in the Boro Harikaba area of Langadu, leaving Bidyadhan Chakma, 45, and Dhanya Moni Chakma, 35, dead.
