Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that vaccination alone will not be enough to stem the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
“We have to follow health guidelines and maintain social distancing rules. It will be easier to control the spread of coronavirus if everyone cooperates,” he said at an exhibition in Manikganj on Saturday.
The programme was jointly organised by Manikganj Sadar Upazila administration and upazila livestock office.
“Countries which have managed to control Covid-19 currently have a stable social and economic condition. Countries which failed to do so have been devastated. So, we all need to work together to keep Covid-19 under control,” he added.
The minister said that all government agencies are working to contain the spread of the virus following the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“So far, Bangladesh did not face any scarcity of medicine or food. Agricultural and industrial activities have continued and our economy is doing far better than many other nations despite the pandemic.”
Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020, and confirmed the first Covid-19 related death on March 18 that year.
On Saturday, the health authorities recorded 43 new coronavirus deaths, pushing the local tally to 12,801.
The country has so far confirmed 8,09,314 cases with a recovery rate of 92.6 per cent.
