The government started inoculating people living in Dhaka’s Korail slum on Tuesday.

The campaign began in the morning as part of the government initiative to vaccinate the inhabitants belonging to high-risk groups to choke the spread of Covid-19.

On Monday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said they would vaccinate three lakh people residing in Dhaka’s slums in phases.

Vaccination coverage among the people living in the capital and other cities is comparatively low due to many factors, including the complex registration process, public health campaigners claimed.

“Realising the reality, the government has initiated the vaccination targeting the people living in slums,” said the minister.

“Though Covid-19 casualties and infections declined sharply, but the risk is not over yet,” he added.
