Vaccination of students aged 12-17 starts in Manikganj Thurs

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will start a test run of Covid-19 vaccination of students between the age of 12 and 17 in Manikganj on Thursday.

In an online announcement, the Director General (DG) of DGHS said that students of two government schools in Manikganj were selected for the vaccination.

The vaccination will take place at Colonel Malek Medical College in Manikganj.

“After observing the students for 10-14 days the health department will expand the vaccination programme,” he said.

He said that only Pfizer vaccine doses would be administrated for children between the age of 12 and 17.

For technical reasons, Manikganj was selected for the test operation, he said.

Soon after the vaccine in Manikganj is deemed successful, it would start in Dhaka, the DG added.

On September 15, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the vaccination of school students.

Following the instruction, the health department started preparation for the vaccination.

Regarding the sufferings of migrants at the airport, the DG said that some people wrongly blamed the health ministry and DGHS.

Claiming the health department performed its duty responsibly, he said, “We set testing facility, but the management of passengers was Civil Aviation’s responsibility.”

On Sunday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque told the media that following World Health Organization’s approval the government has decided to administrate Moderna and Pfizer shots.

Bangladesh detected its first Covid-19 case on March 8 and its first death on March 18.

Amid rising Covid infections and fatalities, Bangladesh began mass inoculation drives on February 7.
