VAT detectives raid Dhanmondi’s American Burger

A team of VAT detectives has raided American Burger, a fast food outlet, in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi. 

A customer filed a complaint with VAT Audit, Intelligence & Investigation Directorate after the outlet failed to provide him with a VAT invoice. 

In response to this allegation, the Assistant Director of the directorate Md Harun Ur Rashid conducted the raid on Thursday afternoon.

During the operation, the detective team found that the outlet had been conducting business for a long time without receiving the 13-digit VAT registration.

Later, the detectives seized sales information from the outlet's POS machine which showed that in just four months it earned Tk18.35 lakh.

In the interest of investigating the overall activities of the business, the statement of accounts has been summoned to its concerned bank. After the verification, other legal action will be taken including filing a case against the business.

Meanwhile, the concerned VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka West has been requested to bring this outlet under registration and take steps for proper VAT collection.
