Vehicular movement on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway resumed on Thursday after remaining off for two days due to incessant rain and landslides.

However, road connectivity with Bandarban is still cut off.

Khan Mohammad Irfan, officer-in-charge of Dohazari Highway Police Station, said traffic movement on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway resumed this morning as water receded.

“There are some places that are still under water and if there is no rain, water accumulated there will also recede soon,” he said.

Satkania, Chandanaish and Lohagara upazilas of Chattogram have been submerged due to continuous rain and an onrush of water from the hills over the last one week.

Due to incessant rain, the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway was submerged in waist-deep water from Barapara Koshaipara of Hashimpur union of Chandanaish to Keranihat in Satkania.

The water level on the road from the Chandanaish College Gate area to the Keranihat section started rising, leading to heavy traffic congestion on the highway on Monday night.

Later, traffic was stopped after 3am, causing inconvenience to passengers, including the elderly and children.

For the last two days, some vehicles were using the alternative road through Banshkhali to travel between Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.

Vehicular movement has returned to normal from this morning after the water receded as there was no heavy rain since Wednesday.

Mofizur Rahman, a trader at Kerani Hat in Satkania, said several areas of Chandanaish, Satkania and Lohagara upazilas are still under water. Many businesses are still closed. It will take another 2-3 days for life to return to normal.
