Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said the Padma Bridge would be opened for vehicular movement by June 2022.
He made the announcement while speaking at a review meeting on the progress of the Padma Multiple Bridge Project at the Bridges Division conference room in Dhaka.
Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, said about 97 per cent work of the main bridge has already been completed, while 90.5 per cent of the river engineering work of the bridge project has been completed and 65.68 per cent of carpeting work of main bridge done.
He said the overall progress of the project is around 92 per cent.
Besides, the road transport and bridges minister said, the gas line installation work has been completed by 99 per cent, while 400KVA power line installation work by 79 per cent.
Chaired by Bridges Division Secretary Md Monjur Hossain, the meeting was attended, among others, by Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam and project director Md Shafiqul Islam.
