Verdict on Arms case against Shahed on Sep 28

A Dhaka court has fixed September 28 to deliver its verdict on a case filed against Regent Hospital Chairman Shahed Karim alias Md Shahed under Arms Act.

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Special Tribunal-1 of Dhaka set the date on Sunday.

On September 16, Shahed claimed himself to be innocent before a Dhaka tribunal in connection with the case filed with Uttara West Police Station.

Earlier on 15 September, a Dhaka tribunal concluded recording the statements of prosecution witnesses against Shahed.

Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Md Sairul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, and Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury gave statements before the court of Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Special Tribunal-1 of Dhaka.

Earlier, a Dhaka court on September 10 started examining prosecution witnesses in the arms case against Shahed Karim.

The court on August 27 framed charges in the case, while the sole accused pleaded not guilty. Earlier on August 19, the court took into cognisance the charge-sheet filed in the case.

Investigation Officer (IO) and DB Inspector Sairul filed the charge-sheet at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan on July 30, while the court on August 13 transferred the case to Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court for further proceedings.

Shahed was arrested by RAB from Debhata upazila of Satkhira in the early hours of 15 July and was airlifted to the capital in the morning.

DB conducted a raid in one of his Uttara dens on 18 July and recovered illegal arms and narcotics. They later filed the case with Uttara West Police Station.
