Vietnam has expressed interest in establishing direct flights on the Hanoi-Dhaka-Hanoi route between Bangladesh and Vietnam to facilitate the travel of tourists and people of the two countries.

Vietnam Ambassador to Bangladesh Pham Viet Chien expressed his country’s interest during a meeting with State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali on Tuesday.

Recalling Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s support to the people of Vietnam during the country’s struggle for independence, the ambassador said both nations have come a long way for liberation.

“If direct flights are established by air, the relationship between the people of these two friendly countries will be further enhanced,” he said.

The tourism and civil aviation sectors will play an important role in developing the field of cooperation between the two countries in the future, he added.

During the meeting, State Minister Mahbub Ali said the two countries have many opportunities to work together for the development of the tourism industry and aviation sector.

“The launch of direct flights between Bangladesh and Vietnam will boost trade and commerce between the two countries as well as connect people,” he said.
