Virtual courts grant bail to 67,229 in 50 days

A total of 67,229 accused, including 755 children, secured bail from virtual courts in 50 working days since May 11 and the courts heard 136,399 bail petitions in this period.

Moreover, 6,822 people also have secured bail from lower courts across the country virtually from July 5 to July 19. Besides, hearings on 15,495 bail petitions were held online during this period.

Supreme Court Spokesman Md Saifur Rahman confirmed the matter to The Business Post on Sunday (July 26).

The virtual court functions started on May 11 after a hiatus of 46 days over coronavirus and subsequent lockdown in order to deal with urgent cases.

The regular activities of courts across the country, including Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court, remained closed since March 26 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
