Voting in the election to Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has begun through electronic voting machines (EVMs) on Wednesday.
The voting started at 8am and will continue till 4pm without any break.
There are 1,938,706 voters in the city corporation area.
In the CCC, seven candidates are vying for the mayoral post, while 169 contenders for 39 general councillor posts and 57 aspirants for 14 reserved seats which are exclusively for women. One general councillor candidate was elected unopposed while poll to a general councillor post in a ward was postponed following the death of a candidate.
EVMs are being used in all the 735 polling centers in the polls.
CCC polls Returning Officer Muhammad Hasanuzzaman earlier said that 5,902 presiding officers and assistant presiding officers along with 10,268 polling officers were trained.
Twenty-five platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) troopers have been deployed in Chattogram city along with 9,000 police personnel to ensure safe environment for voting.
