Voting in the by-polls to Chattogram-8 constituency began on Thursday morning.
The voting began at 8 am and will continue till 4 pm.
The Election Commission sent the polling equipment to the centers on Wednesday.
The seat became vacant after the death of Awami League MP Moslem Uddin Ahmed. Voting through EVM has started in 190 centers of this constituency to choose the new representative.
The five candidates competing for this seat are - Awami League's Noman Al Mahmud with boat symbol, Islamic Front Bangladesh's Syed Muhammad Farid Uddin with chair symbol, Bangladesh Islamic Front's Sehab Uddin Muhammad Abdus Samad with candle symbol, National People's Party-NPP's Kamal Pasha with mango symbol and independent candidate Ramzan Ali with ektara symbol.
BNP, one of the largest parties in the country, did not field a candidate in the by-election. With eight months left for the national elections, there is no heat in this by-election.
