Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed said they want to consider the killing of former Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan as an 'isolated incident' and it will not affect the existing trusted relationship of the Army and police forces.
They made the remarks at a joint press conference held in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.
"We want to see it as a separate incident. Only the people involved in the killing will be punished," said the Army chief.
A joint inquiry team has been formed upon the direction from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to conduct a transparent investigation into the incident, he added.
Action will be taken as per the recommendation of the probe committee and the guilty will face trial, said the IGP.
Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post in Cox’s Bazar on July 31. Two people were arrested and two separate cases were filed in this regard.
The Home Ministry formed a four-member committee, headed by Mizanur Rahman, additional divisional commissioner (development), on August 2.
