What action has been taken against Madrasa teacher over beating student, HC asks

The High Court (HC) on Thursday wanted to know what action has been taken against the Chattogram Madrasa teacher who brutally tortured a student and a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The HC bench of Justice F.R.M. Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Shahed Nuruddin passed the order.

It also asked the Chattogram deputy commissioner, police super and officer-in-charge of the concerned police station to submit a report in this regard by Sunday.

The HC asked police to provide medical treatment to the victim and ensure security of his family if necessary.

Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar drew the attention of the court regarding the incident.

Madrasa teacher Md. Yahya accused of torturing an 7-year-old residential student was arrested from Chittagong‘s Hathazari on Wednesday after a video of the incident went viral.

On Tuesday evening, the child was indiscriminately beaten by him at Al Markazul Quran Islamic Academy near Konak Community Center in Hathazari.

After the video went viral on social media, the child was rescued from the madrasa by local authority.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when his mother went to the madrasa to see the child on his birthday.

As she was leaving, the boy ran after his mother. At this, the teacher grabbed him by the neck, took him into a room and threw him on the floor beating him severely with a cane.

A video taken by a bystander, sparking outrage, quickly spread through social media at night.

UNO Ruhul Amin said, "After learning about the incident, I went to the madrasa with the police around 12:30 am on Wednesday and informed his parents rescuing the child."

At the same time, Maulana Yahya was ordered to be expelled from Hafezi Madrasa Markazul Islamic Academy.

The child's mother Parveen Akhtar and father Md. Joynal told UNO in a letter that they were shocked and angry at the incident. However, considering the future of the child, initially they requested not to take any legal action against the madrasa teacher.

The child's father, Md. Joynal, said they did not want to sue.

UNO Ruhul Amin however instructed that Yahya not be appointed as a teacher in any madrasa in Hathazari and requested the child's parents to file a case against the teacher.

Accordingly, the child’s father filed a case and Yahya was arrested.
