White panel demands resign of DU administration

The white panel of Dhaka University (DU) teachers, backed by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the Jamaat-e-Islami, demanded the resignation of the administration of Dhaka University.

The leaders of the white panel claim the demand in a press conference at DU club on Tuesday at 12:15pm. Moreover, including this demand they demanded 11 points and agreed to the 9 demands that were demanded by the Students Against Discrimination movement. 

Prof Lutfor Rahaman, convener of the white panel, said in a written speech, "In the ongoing quota movement, an incident of casualties by the attack of force officials, political student organisations and external on general students of the university inside Dhaka University campus, with the incidents responsibility University's  administration has to resign." 

Then he announced the 11-point demand. The demands are —

First, Dhaka University campus was attacked by fake students and external terrorists on common students on July 15 and after that, subject to impartial investigation of all the incidents that took place on the campus, identify the culprits and ensure proper action against them.

Second, Dhaka University’s administration has to resign for failing to take necessary steps to protect general students from terrorist attacks.

Third, All educational institutions in the country including Dhaka University have to open immediately. 

Fourth, Normalise public life by withdrawing curfew.

Fifth, By arranging an international investigation under the supervision of the United Nations, members of the law enforcement agencies and pro-government terrorists involved in the killing of hundreds of people including students in the name of suppressing the movement since July 16, and bringing them to justice quickly and providing adequate compensation to the families of the victims and at the same time providing proper treatment to all those injured in this attack.

Sixth, Incidents of massive damage to important state facilities and resources centred around the movement should be subject to an impartial investigation under the supervision of the United Nations, and the real perpetrators should be identified and brought to justice.

Seventh, Handover of Students Against Discrimination movement coordinators from DB custody to families and immediate release of all arrested students.

Eighth, Withdraw all cases filed against students and stop arresting and harassing them.

Ninth, Solve the crisis by quickly implementing the latest 9-point demand of the Students Against Discrimination movement. Mass arrest of leaders, workers and supporters of opposition political parties including professionals for their involvement in the incident without investigation.

Tenth, End brutal torture on remand and immediate release of those arrested.

Eleventh, Resignation of the government in compliance with popular demands and establishment of a people's government by holding an impartial election.

Prof Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Joint convener of the panel, Prof Abdus Salam,  and Prof Abul Kalam Sarker, among others, were present at the press conference.
