The High Court on Thursday ordered the government and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to explain why the government didn’t seek information of deposits of money in the Swiss banks.

The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the suo moto order and asked them to submit the report by next Sunday.

Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik and ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan were present in the court.

The court also asked to submit a copy of the news on the statement of the Swiss ambassador in Dhaka published in different newspapers, said lawyer Khurshid Alam.

The Bangladesh government did not submit any request for information regarding any particular funding in the Swiss banks, said Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh Nathalie Chuard while responding to a question on the issue at DCAB Talk on Wednesday.

“Switzerland is not a safe haven for corrupt money,” she said adding “When it comes to the Bangladeshi money deposited in the Swiss banks - the deposits meant by individuals …represent only one aspect of various sources of public and private funds,” she said.
