Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Saturday said that chaos occurs in society in the absence of justice.

"Without justice, people cannot live peacefully in society. In the absence of justice, chaos occurs in society," he said.

He said these while addressing as the chief guest the inauguration of the 10th orientation course organised for newly promoted additional district and sessions judges and equivalent judges at the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in Dhaka, an official release said.

The minister said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamt of an independent, impartial and dynamic judiciary, where the exploited, deprived, oppressed and helpless people would get justice speedily at a low cost.

In order to establish social peace and order and build a strong socio-economic system in a country, Anisul said, it is essential to ensure justice for every criminal involved in crime and these trials should be done as quickly as possible.

"In this regard, the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been providing all kinds of support to the judiciary since the beginning," he added.

The current government and the Supreme Court are taking various pragmatic steps to reduce the country's long-standing backlog of cases through speedy disposal of cases, he continued.

The minister said the people have already started getting the benefits of it.

"It is often reported that in many courts across the country, the disposal rate is now higher than the number of cases filed at a single time. That matter makes us optimistic in this regard."

With JATI Director General Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana in the chair, the programme was addressed, among others, by Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwar and JATI Director (Training) Sk Ashfaqur Rahman.
