Woman calls 999 after killing husband

A woman called the national emergency service 999, after apparently killing her husband in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Shamim Mia, 40, originally from Kandigaon under Muktagachha upazila of Mymensingh district.

Sub-inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station Quamrul Islam said, Banu Begum, 31, from Mymensingh district and a resident of Rayerbazar’s Sadek Khan Road, called 999 and asked to send a team of police as she had “killed” her husband with a sharp weapon around 4:15 am.

She also said that she wanted to surrender.

Constable Tanvir received the call and asked the Mohammadpur Police Station to send a team.

Later, police arrested Banu and sent the body to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Banu was the second wife of Shamim and during primary interrogation, police came to know that Shamim used to “beat her often” over domestic disputes. Failing to bear the torture, she killed her husband, Banu told police.
