Woman killed, son injured in Khagrachhari gunfire

A 45-year-old woman was killed and her 10-year-old son was injured in a shooting at Dighinala upazila in Khagrachhari early Saturday. 

The deceased was identified as Morsheda Begum, wife of Abdul Malek, president of Sonamia Hill Land Protection Committee, and the injured is Md Ahad.

Uttam Chandra Dev, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dighinala Police Station, confirmed the matter to The Business Post.

The OC said, Morsheda Begum and her son Md Ahad were shot when some unidentified miscreants brushfired at Abdul Malek's house around 1:30 am and fled.

Later, the locals took them to the Dighinala Upazila Health Complex with gunshot wounds and doctors declared Morsheda Begum dead. Ahad is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The body of the deceased was sent to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital for autopsy, OC Dev added.

The criminals involved in the incident are yet be identified, said the OC, adding that patrols of law enforcement have been intensified to avoid untoward incidents in the area.
