Director of Department of Women Affairs Md Fakhrul Kabir died from the novel coronavirus early Tuesday.

“He passed away at around 1:40am at a city hospital in the capital,” read a press release from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

Joint Secretary, (Admin Cadre of BCS 13th Batch), Fakhrul was diagnosed with coronavirus in the first week of June and was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after his condition deteriorated and shifted to Square Hospitals on Monday.

Fakhrul Kabir’s wife also tested positive for coronavirus and is currently undergoing treatment at home.

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira, Secretary Kazi Rowshan Akter, and State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain expressed deep shock at the death of Fakhrul Kabir.
