Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said the hartal announced by Hefazat-e-Islami Bangladesh on Sunday will not be allowed take place.
The minister made the call at a press conference said on Friday.
He said, "Further decision will be taken after examining the mayhem and violence caused by Hefazat in Dhaka, Chittagong and Brahmanbaria."
Earlier at 8 pm, Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh called a countrywide demonstration on Saturday and a dawn to dusk strike on Sunday protesting the killing and attack of its activists and leaders in Dhaka, Chattogram and Brahmanbaria on Friday.
Earlier in the afternoon, four people were killed and dozens injured in clashes between Hefazat-e-Islam and cops in Chattogram's Hathazari.
The clash erupted when Hefazat activists of mostly Hathazari Madrasa blocked a highway protesting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh.
