Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said on Sunday that the government is working to improve the e-waste management system in Bangladesh.

He said e-waste management rules have been formulated, and an e-waste management plant will be set up under the BEST project, reports BSS.

"The government is strongly committed to implementing a sustainable agenda that includes increasing energy efficiency, expanding the use of renewable energy, and reducing single-use plastics," he said when Manisha Dogra, senior vice president of Telenor Asia, met him at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka.

Saber Hossain, with a sense of urgency, announced that the government is actively working towards building Bangladesh as a climate-resilient country. He emphasised that the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targets will be revised soon, and the drafting of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) guidelines will be finalised by June, underlining the importance of these initiatives for a sustainable future.

He urged Telenor to continue collaboration to foster a greener Bangladesh.

Manisha Dogra said Telenor Asia is committed to environmental sustainability and climate action in the region and is dedicated to supporting the Bangladesh government in its journey towards a sustainable future.

During the meeting, they discussed pressing environmental challenges and shared a vision for a greener and resilient future.
