The Department of Inspection for Factory and Establishment (DIFE) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment has directed garment workers to display their factory ID cards while entering Dhaka.
The directive came in a letter signed by Inspector General of the Department Shivnath Roy on Saturday (May 2).
“If a worker needs to come to Dhaka for factory work, he/she has to carry a factory ID card and show it to the concerned authorities,” the directive reads. “They will not be allowed in any entry points of Dhaka without ID cards.”
In the meantime, the factory owners have been discouraged to bring back garment workers from outside of Dhaka until further notice.
