A rush of readymade garment workers was seen at several entry points to the capital since Saturday morning as the government allowed factories to reopen from Sunday.

An influx of male and female workers left for their workplaces on short-distance vehicles as public transport is suspended due to the lockdown.‎

‎The number of these returning workers on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway was increasing with time.

They were seen at Square Masterbari, Nayanpur, Mawana intersection, Gorgoria Masterbari, Rajendrapur, Ghazipur intersection, and Tongi areas of the highway.

‎The workers were hiring motorcycles, autorickshaws, CNG-run autorickshaws, and rickshaw vans plying at various points of the highway.

With this opportunity, transports were charging extra fare causing suffering to the returning workers.

Meanwhile, export-oriented manufacturing factories received the government nod on Friday to resume operations from August 1 amid the ongoing lockdown.

The exporters requested the workers, who are out of workplaces, to reach workstations once restrictions are relaxed. If the workers act accordingly, they will not lose their jobs.
