The High Court on Wednesday scrapped a writ petition challenging the legality of parliament membership of Tangail-4 lawmaker Hasan Imam Khan Sohel.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order.
Advocate Shah Manjurul Haque moved the plea before the court, while Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta argued for the state. Tangail Awami League leader Mokhlesur Rahman filed the writ on November 16, making officials concerned including Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) as respondents.
Mokhlesur Rahman had sent a letter to the CEC, saying there is inconsistency in the information given by the lawmaker in his affidavit regarding his educational qualification. But as the Election Commission did
not respond to his call, the petitioner filed the writ with the High Court, the deputy attorney general said.
