Writ filed seeking e-commerce regulatory authority

A writ petition was filed on Monday to set up an e-commerce regulatory authority with a view to monitoring the activities of e-commerce platforms in the country.

Supreme Court lawyer Md Anwarul Islam Badhan filed the petition with the High Court Division.

Secretary to the Commerce Ministry, chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, director general of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, and the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh were made respondents to the writ petition.

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman will hear the petition, the lawyer said.

Earlier on Sunday, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin said the e-commerce activities should be brought under legal procedures to protect consumers from fraud.
