The cyclonic storm 'Yaas' has intensified further into a severe cyclonic storm and now lies over the north-northwestwards area, moving from the east-central bay and adjoining area, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Tuesday.
At 6.00am Tuesday, the storm was centred about 575kms south-southwest of Chattogram port, 520kms south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 515kms south-southwest of Mongla port and 480kms south-southwest of Payra port.
Due to favourable atmospheric conditions, the severe cyclonic storm is likely to intensify further, move in a north-northwesterly direction and may reach northwest bay by May 26 early morning, a special weather bulletin of the Met Office (BMD) reads.
The Met Office advised the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to keep hoisted distant warning signal number 2.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the north bay and the deep sea have also been advised to take shelter and remain in shelter till further notice.
