The cyclonic storm 'Yaas' over north Odisha and the adjoining area has moved north-northwestwards further, weakening into a deep depression, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The depression lied over North Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand at 6:00am on Thursday.
Steep pressure gradient persists over the north bay and coastal areas of Bangladesh and the sea will remain rough, reads a special weather bulletin of Met Office (BMD), adding that it is likely to move further north-northwestwards and weaken gradually.
Under the influence of a steep pressure gradient, the districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Jhalokathi, Pirojpur, Borguna, Patuakhali, Barishal, Bhola, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Chattogram and their offshore islands and chars are likely to experience wind speed up to 50-60kph in gusts or squalls, the Met Office said.
The low-lying areas of the districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Jhalokathi, Pirojpur, Borguna, Patuakhali, Barishal, Bhola, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, and Chattogram are likely to be inundated by two to four feet height above normal astronomical tide.
The BMD advised all maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the north bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
