Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman has been elected as the president of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB).

The association took the decision at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at its office in Banani on Monday, according to a press release issued on Thursday.

Azman will succeed Banglalink CEO Erik Aas and assume the role for a two-year term, effective from April.

In addition to Yasir Azman's appointment, the board also elected Rajeev Sethi, CEO and Managing Director of Robi, and Erik Aas, CEO of Banglalink as the senior vice president and vice president respectively.

High officials from companies including Banglalink, Grameenphone, Robi, Teletalk, as well as associate member companies such as Ericsson and Huawei, actively participated in the AGM.

Upon his appointment, Yasir Azman expressed his gratitude and shared his vision for AMTOB under his stewardship, stating, "I am honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility of serving as the President of AMTOB. AMTOB, as a collective voice of the telecommunications industry, plays a pivotal role in accelerating our journey towards a digitally inclusive, sustainable, smart Bangladesh. I hope and believe, together with the regulators and industry stakeholders we will be able to unlock the true and full potential of the industry by catering to the evolving digital needs of the customers and contributing to fostering a thriving ecosystem that benefits the industry and the nation. Together, we will strive to promote innovation, enhance connectivity, and contribute to the socio-economic growth of our nation."

AMTOB looks forward to the collective expertise and leadership of its newly elected President and Board members in further advancing the mobile telecom sector's growth and development in Bangladesh.
