Former Dhaka University student Tanbir Hasan Saikat, also a former leader of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), teamed up with his university mates to provide free meal, powdered milk and free transport service to low-income people on the campus during the nationwide lockdown period.
Tanbir and his friends carried out a similar programme last year as well, continuing the service for 121 days. They served meal to destitute people at the TSC area of Dhaka University campus alongside flood victims in different districts of the country.
“It means a lot to me when I see smiling faces after each service. This feeling cannot be compared with anything else,” said Saikat.
“We think it is difficult for the government to deal with the pandemic alone. Every individual should come forward and stand by the people during the pandemic,” Saikat added.
While talking to The Business Post one of the beneficiaries of the free meal service said: “The previous lockdown was very tough on us but Saikat’s free meal service came as a blessing. And I cannot thank the almighty enough, this year too they didn’t forget us.”
The free meal service will continue the entire Ramadan and anyone willing to avail the service may contact Saikat’s team through the following number: 01684023411.
