After being terminated from the ruling Awami League (AL), Mohammad Zahangir Alam has been suspended from the mayor post of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) on Thursday.
Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tazul Islam confirmed the matter in a press conference at the secretariat in the afternoon.
“Investigations were directed against Zahangir Alam as many allegations were raised against him”, he said.
Earlier on November 19, Awami league terminated Zahangir from the central committee.
Before that on October 3, AL issued a show cause notice on Gazipur City Corporation Mayor over his controversial comments on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the number of martyred freedom fighters.
Zahangir recently made some comments about Bangabandhu and the number of martyred freedom fighters at a programme and the video of it went viral.
