Sales of ladieswear and kids clothing witnessed an increasing trend as soon as clothing retailers reopened their shops after the government eased restrictions on movement ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Talking to The Business Post, many clothing shop owners and staff said they witnessed an increased demand for female clothing and kidswear ever since markets reopened after July 14.
“We are now getting more female customers and they are buying sarees, salwar kameez and kids clothing from us,” said Sohan Mollah Robin, Aarong outlet supervisor at Mirpur-1.
“Currently, we have a large collection of Cotton, Muslin, Silk, Katan, Nakshi Kantha, Jamdani, and Brac silk sarees, for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha,” he added.
Meanwhile, shoppers said they were buying sarees, three-piece dresses and children’s clothing as gifts for their near and dear ones, including those they expect to meet at their native villages during the Eid holidays.
Nazrina Haque Mowmita, a customer at Aarong said, “I am here with along with my family to buy clothes from myself and my relatives as well. I will buy sarees from here as a gift for my mother-in-law. I will also buy a kids set for my niece.”
Following the announcement of easing the “strict lockdown,” the government also permitted shopping malls and markets to reopen for business while maintaining strict health safety guidelines.
However, during a visit to popular shopping’s malls and markets in the capital, including Bashundhara City, New Market, Shyamoli Square Shopping Mall, Muktijoddha Super Market, Mirpur New Super Market and Mukto Bangla Shopping Complex, it was found that the many shoppers, especially women and kids, were in a rush to complete their Eid clothing disregarding the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Fahmida Ritu, a sales executive at Yellow’s Mirpur outlet, said, “In our outlet, both customers and shopkeepers are following the hygiene rules strictly. We are also offering hand sanitizer to our customers before entering our outlet.”
“We are happy with the flow of customers in our outlet. Our sales have also been satisfactory ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha. Specially, sales of ladies and kids’ clothing are doing better now,” she added.
Along with ladies’ tops, salwar kameez, fatua, and kids’ clothing, shop owners said sales of panjabi, pajama, shirt, and t-shirt, were also satisfactory.
Mohammad Yasin, a salesperson of Adi Mohini Mohan Kanjilal at Bashundhara City said,” After opening of businesses, we are getting a very positive response from our customers. We hope that the flow of customers will increase before the Eid-Ul-Azha and boost our sales.”
On July 12, the government announced that after the interval for Eid-ul-Azha celebrations, the country will go under another session of strict lockdown from July 23.
Earlier on July 11, Religious Affairs Minister Md Faridul Haque Khan confirmed that the country will celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on July 21.
