Govt launches agri product marketing app 'Sadai'

The government launched its first agriculture product marketing App 'Sadai' on Wednesday to ensure fair prices for farmers and a supply of quality goods for the consumers.

Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque inaugurated the application at his office at the Secretariat. The Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM) is the custodian of the mobile application.

"Agricultural product marketing is a big challenge. This App will help farmers get fair prices, ensure product quality and cut the presence of middle-men," he said.

The production of paddy, wheat, maize, vegetable and fruits increased in recent years. Farmers often fail to market their produce and get fair prices. On the other hand, consumers don't get fresh products at reasonable prices, he said.

"This App will help to reduce this gap between farmers and consumers," the minister said.

'Sadai' is designed in Bangla. Through this App, farmers will meet customers directly while DAM will look after the whole process, including fixing prices and monitor trade and product quality. DAM will operate a call centre to receive complaints and resolve them.

Consumers can pay through mobile banking and cash on delivery. Separate Apps for consumers and farmers can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

Mesbahul Islam, senior secretary of the agriculture ministry, and Mohammad Yusuf, director-general of DAM, were present in the app launching programme.
