Health authorities in Tangail have suspended a health worker for allegedly pushing syringe needle on vaccine-seekers without injecting the vaccine.
Shamim Hussain Chowdhury, deputy civil surgeon of Tangail on Tuesday told The Business Post that they had suspended Sajeda Afrin, assistant health inspector at Delduar of Tangail, after investigations found that allegations brought against Sajeda were ture.
He also said that Sajeda admitted her guilt in writing.
In her statement, Sajeda told the investigators that she acted so for her illness and facing the pressure of vaccine-seekers.
Tangail Civil Surgeon Abul Fazal Sahabuddin Khan said the three-member committee formed to probe the incident submitted its report on Monday. The next day, Sajeda was relieved of her duties.
On August 1, Sajeda Afrin was stationed at a booth in Delduar Upazila Health Complex for vaccinating people.
Some vaccine recipients noticed that she was pushing the needle in a hurry and was throwing away the syringes.
After receiving several complains, Delduar Upazila Health Complex Resident Medical Officer Shamim Hossain examined the discarded syringes and found 20 syringes with vaccines still inside them.
Later, a three-member investigation committee was formed to investigate the matter.
