The City Bank authorities have filed a case with Gulshan police station under Digital Security Act alleging some media and social media spreading false information about the bank’s senior officials’ involvement with actress Pori Moni.
The City Bank’s First Vice-President Gazi M Shawkat Hasan filed the case under Digital Security Act (DSA) on Saturday night.
Gulshan police station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hasan confirmed the matter to The Business Post on Sunday and said they are investigating into the matter.
According to the case statement, some unidentified quarters are using their fake Facebook pages, YouTube channels and websites to spread false and defamatory information without the permission of The City Bank Limited, members of the bank’s board of directors, Managing Director Mashrur Arefin and other officials. This is tarnishing the reputation of the bank, its board members, managing director and other officials.
In order to taint the image of The City Bank, the board of directors and the managing director in the eyes of the society, a vested group is spreading false and defamatory information using videos with the intention of extorting money from the bank in a dishonest way, the statement said.
The statement included links of several videos involving The City Bank's board of directors and managing director.
Earlier, the bank authorities filed a General Dairy (GD) on August 11.
Pori Moni was nabbed in a raid on her residence in Dhaka on August 4.
