City Group to develop hi-tech park in Demra

City Group, a local business conglomerate, will set up City Hi-Tech Park on 115 acres of land at Demra in Dhaka.

To this end, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) and City Hi-Tech Park Limited in the capital on Thursday.

BHTPA Managing Director (MD) Bikarna Kumar Ghosh and City High-Tech Park Ltd Chairman Md Hasan signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.

The private hi-tech park is expected to cost around Tk 5,000 crore and will create employment opportunities for more than 15,000 people.

City Hi-Tech Park Limited already has started preparing the master plan, feasibility study and environmental survey for the project after receiving the formal approval from the authorities, said a statement.

NM Zeaul Alam, senior secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division, was present at the signing programme as chief guest.

He welcomed the City group for expressing their interest in building the City High-Tech Park, which would create a positive influence on the country’s business community.

Meanwhile, Bikarna Kumar Ghosh said, “Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority has created some 13,000 employments in ICT sector while the number of skilled workforces has reached 28,500 since the year 2000.”

“We have allowed 116 local start-up companies to use space and co-working space with the free of cost in the country’s high-tech parks,” he said.

He also noted that five hi-tech parks are ready for investment while three others are to be inaugurated soon.

The cooperation will focus on developing infrastructures, increasing foreign investment, strengthening the start-up ecosystem and support entrepreneurs through upskilling through start-up camps, designing and innovation in projects, said Bikarna .

Besides, a dormitory and a science zone will be built at the park.
