Bangladesh will operate flights from Dhaka to Rwanda and Ethiopia very soon to ease communication, especially for the exporters.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism made the decision on August 1, responding to calls from Rwanda and Ethiopia.

Air Vice-Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), said that a considerable amount of medicine or medical equipment, readymade garments and agriculture items are exported to these countries.

Besides, many Rwandan and Ethiopian people travel to the Middle East and other countries using UAE airport transits.

“If our air flights can go to Rwanda and Ethiopia, passengers of both countries can use them to go to different countries. It will be an opportunity for us,” Mafidur told The Business Post.

CAB sources said Bangladesh plans to launch Dhaka-Toronto-Dhaka flights soon and resume flights from Dhaka to Japan’s Narita International Airport. A meeting was held at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism on August 18 on this issue.

Dhaka-New York flights will resume after CAAB gets promoted to Category-1.

Moreover, flights on the Dhaka-Colombo-Dhaka, Dhaka-Chennai-Dhaka and other routes will resume after physical study, CAAB sources said.
