913 plots in 15 BSCIC estates left unused

A total of 913 plots in various industrial estates of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation are lying unused as the owners did not set up plants within the deadline.

Out of the total 913 unused plots, 362 plots are not in use in Munshiganj while rest are located in 14 industrial estates under BSCIC areas across the country.

The vacant plots are-some 362 plots allocated in electrical goods manufacturing and light engineering industrial estate in Munshiganj district, 138 in industrial estate (extension) under Gopalganj, 121 in Srimangal of Moulvibazar, 78 in Chuadanga, 60 in Barguna, 45 in Madaripur (Extension), 39 in Jhalokati, 33 in Khagrachari, 10 in Sunamganj, nine in Lalmonirhat, six in Meherpur, six others also in Bhola, four in Patuakhali and two in Chauddagram of Cumilla.

Meanwhile, the government has undertaken the necessary steps to allot the unused plots among the interested industrial entrepreneurs as per rules.

To this effect, the government has called upon the entrepreneurs to apply with the required documents to get the plots within 45 days after the publication an advertisement in this regard.

This has been revealed soon after the issuance of a press release jointly signed by engineer Nasrin Rahim, deputy general manager of Industrial Estate and Coordinator Section and Mollic Mostafizur Rahman, extension officer of Industrial Estate and Coordinator Section of the BSCIC.

Meanwhile, the BSCIC authorities have also uploaded the same advertisement, which was published in some dailies on August 24.

The entrepreneurs have been asked to apply for the plots through their respective districts or industrial estate offices of BSCIC after following the due rules and regulations, said the release.

The price of the plots is payable at a time or in 10 installments within five years. However, 20 per cent of the total amount of the desired land plot price needs to be paid at the time of submission of the application, said the release.

According to the release, the applicants must attach pay order or DD (In favor of the concerned Industrial Estate Office) with the application and plots will be allotted through the concerned District Plot Allotment Committee (LAC).

The authority reserves the right to cancel any application without any clarifications or explanations, it added.

The BSCIC in its circular also mentioned that the unused plots at electrical goods manufacturing and light engineering industrial estate in Munshiganj would be reserved only for electric goods and light engineering industrial units for relocation or installation and application has to be submitted through their concerned association in this regard.

Those who are not members of the association but already have electric goods and light engineering industries in operation can also apply directly.
