Covid-19 infection rate remains below 15% for 2nd day

Bangladesh reported 102 more deaths from Covid-19 in a span of 24 hours till 8:00 am on Thursday as the death curve continued falling in the country over the past few weeks.

In the last 24 hours, the positivity rate also dropped down to 13.77 per cent from Wednesday’s 14.76 per cent, below 15 per cent for second consecutive days. Covid-19 death rate now stands at 1.74 per cent.

As many as 34,111 samples were tested during the 24-hour period, yielding an infection rate of 13.77%, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services.

Also, the health authorities reported 4,698 new cases during the last 24 hours. Testing 34,111 samples at 789 laboratories across the country

the DGHS found the scenario while Bangladesh has so far tested 87,88,765 samples.

Meanwhile, 8,314 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 13,97,885.

Among the fresh fatalities, 52 were males and 50 were females. Dhaka logged the highest with 37 fatalities in terms of deaths per division,

24 in Chattogram, 13 in Sylhet, eight in Khulna, six in Barishal, five each in Rajshahi and Mymensingh and four in Rangpur.

Of them, two were aged between 11-20 years, two between 21-30 years, 10 between 31-40 years, 18 between 41-50 years, 33 between 51-60 years, 26 between 61-70 years, eight between 71-80 years while three others between 81-90 years, added the DGHS release

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

The country is currently witnessing the third wave of infections which began in July prompting the

authorities to impose several restrictions. The government lifted the restrictions on August 11.
