Govt to sign MoU with Mitsubishi today

Bangladesh Steel Engineering Corporation (BSEC) and Mitsubishi Motor Corporation (MCC) are all se to conduct a feasibility study towards setting up a manufacturing factory for Mitsubishi cars in Bangladesh. 

To this end, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is scheduled to be inked on Thursday between MMC and BSEC. Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun will be present at the signing ceremony as chief guest.    

“It was a long-cherished dream for Bangladesh to manufacture cars. In materialising the dream, we are going to conduct a feasibility study with MCC. Based on the findings and prospects, we will jointly move towards investment to manufacture cars and vehicles for the local markets” BSEC Chairman Md Shahidul Hoque Bhuia told The Business Post.

“We will form a joint venture company with MCC and the terms and conditions of the partnership will be set after an agreement between two countries is signed,” he added. 

Currently, Progati Industry Limited (PIL), a state owned company under the BSEC, has been assembling cars in collaboration with MCC.

In the last 50 years, PIL has assembled and marketed more than 60,000 vehicles of different categories as well as able to obtain Complete Knock Down CKD kits from world-renowned manufacturers. PIL assembles and sells more than 1,000 vehicles on an average every year.  

Till now, PIL factory has been assembling Mitsubishi ASZ SUV, Pajero Sport QX, Mitsubishi (L-200) Double Cabin Pickup.

The Mitsubishi Motor was established over 140 years ago. Last year MMC was sales more than 80 thousand vehicles. In the world, 13 countries operate business MMC.
