Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) inaugurated its online market on Thursday to promote locally-made products produced within its industrial units.
The online market will provide the local cottage, micro, small and medium entrepreneurs a platform to display their products for local and international buyers.
Entrepreneurs can sell their goods through the platform after registering with BSCIC.
Buyers from any part of the world will find locally-made goods, ranging from daily necessities to luxurious products. There will also be a system of fast delivery along with mobile payment facilities.
There will be multiple options to transact using several currencies, such as taka and US dollars.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun attended the programme as the chief guest at hotel InterContinental in Dhaka. State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Industries Secretary Zakia Sultana and President of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Md Jashim Uddin spoke at the programme.
In his welcome speech, BSCIC Chairman Md Mostak Hasan said this platform would soon become the biggest e-commerce platform in the country. Ten million entrepreneurs of the country will have the opportunity to operate their businesses locally and internationally. It is an excellent opportunity for them to enter the international market, he said.
“We will create 10 million more employment and a total of 20 million jobs within 2041 to make the country a developed one,” he said.
Jashim said SME is the backbone of the country. The entrepreneurs in the sector are contributing a lot to the economy. “We must eradicate the obstacles to achieve to goal of a developed country,” he said.
