Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 35 deaths, 1,190 cases in 24hrs

Bangladesh reported 35 new coronavirus-related deaths and 1,190 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Saturday.

Maintaining a downward trend, the positivity rate dropped further down to 6.05 from Friday’s 6.41 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,41,300 and the total fatalities at 27,182, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 19,668 samples at 808 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 94,13,033 samples.

Meanwhile, 1,645 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,98,654.

Among the fresh fatalities, 16 were males and 19 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 19 fatalities, followed by six in Chattogram, three each in Rajshahi and Khulna, two in Sylhet, and 1 each in Barishal and Rangpur. Mymensingh division reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 228,516,497 and the death toll to 4,695,097 till Saturday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
