The government has given approval to the establishment of a private science and technology university named after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Kishoreganj’s Bhairab upazila.
With the approval of Sheikh Hasina University of Science and Technology, the number of private universities now stands at 108 in the country, said a press release on Saturday.
On Thursday, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education sent a letter to the university's founder Dr HBM Iqbal giving temporary approval to run the university at Banshgari village.
Dr HBM Iqbal, a former lawmaker of the ruling Awami League and chairman of the private commercial Premier Bank took the initiative to establish the university named after Sheikh Hasina.
According to the Private University Act-2010 (clause 6), a proposed university must have own or rented building with an area of at least 25,000
square feet.
