Aviation sector growth to triple in 15 years: State minister

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali said on Thursday the growth of Bangladesh’s aviation sector will triple in the next 15 years.

At a function at Jashore Airport marking inauguration of direct US Bangla Airlines flights on Jashore-Chattogram and Jashore-Cox’s Bazar routes, he said the industry has been growing rapidly under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said a press release.

By 2017, Bangladesh’s aviation market has almost doubled while passenger and cargo flights grew 10 per cent annually over the past 10 years, he said.

If this potential for growth in the aviation sector can be harnessed, it will lead to huge employment opportunities as well as improve the socio-economic condition of the country, the state minister added.

Later, the state minister inaugurated the direct Syedpur-Chattogram flight of US Bangla Airlines at another event at Syedpur Airport.
