Biman starts Saidpur-Cox’s Bazar flight

Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Thursday starts operation of its first ever direct flight from Syedpur to Cox’s Bazar without via Dhaka in a bid to connect the country’s northern region with Bangladesh’s most exciting tourist destination through air route.

The national flag carrier will operate the direct flight from Syedpur to Cox’s Bazar route every Thursday and a flight from Cox’s Bazar to Syedpur on every Saturday.

The state minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md. Mahbub Ali chaired the flight opening ceremony at Saidpur Airport while Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon spoke as the chief guest.

Ali said that as per the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Biman has been connecting Cox’s Bazar with different parts of the country to flourish the country’s tourism sector.

“From now, the people from North Bengal can directly travel to beach city Cox’s Bazar in less time while people of the southern side can easily visit tourist spots in the northern area of the country,” the state minister added.

Noting that the government has the plan to upgrade the Syedpur airport as a regional aviation hub, Sujon said, after implementing the plan, the northern part of India, Bhutan and Nepal will be able to use this airport that will give a boost in the development of the northwestern area of the country.

Nilphamari-2 constituency lawmaker Asaduzzaman Nur, Chairman of the Biman Board of Directors Sajjad Hossain, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Mokammel Hossain, and Biman Managing Director and CEO Md. Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal also attended the function.
